Kids are smart......but mommies can be smart too

The last few days have been busy and a bit crazy around here. As you may know, the last of the 40 nights are over so the day it came when I had to start to get strict with my Angie about her pickiness. Click here to learn about the 40 nights thing.
The first day I didn't go full blown. Do you know how hard and scary it is to face an ogre, I mean, my daughter on my own! And of course, she knew something was up.
I can almost hear her thoughts "hmmm, mom's acting weird.....I wonder what she's gonna try to do today?"

I did however let her know a few things and I was able to follow through.
First, if she asked for something to eat, she MUST eat it all.
Second, no more different snacks between meals. She may have a cookie or something like that after she has eaten all her food.
Third, she eats at the same times as we do. So, she gets breakfast at breakfast time. She may get ONE snack before it is time for lunch. Then it's lunch time. She may have another snack halfway through, before dinner. Then it's dinner.
Believe me, that is already tough enough!

Oh, and I made a very yummy yet healthy drink for her!!!!
I got V8 Fusion (with vegetables and fruits), and I added fat free vanilla ice cream. Put them in the blender and violá, a very delicious Smoothie!!!
Well at first, she really liked it.
I think after seeing me so happy that she was drinking it, she realized......hmmm, this can't be good.
sigh
So she didn't want to drink it anymore! Argh!
I made her drink a few more sips before I put it back in the fridge.

However, yesterday I made her drink all the rest of that.
Oh Yea, she fought me. And Yea, I saw the fake tears. And of course she tried to trade off the task for another one.......you know, like "mommy I promise to be good if you don't make me drink that" ha! Yeah, I've fell for that one in the past.
No more little one, no more! I gots smarter......spelled S-A-R-T.........I mean S-M-A-R-T! haha

Friday Evening

I just realized I sort of left my post from Friday up in the air, because I didn't talk about dinner.

Well Fridays (and Mondays) my husband and I run a ministry out of our Church for people who struggle with all types of addictions, codependency, anger, and more. It is a Christ-centered 12 step recovery program. So every Friday we have to get everything ready. And this Friday I was doing the main lesson, so I was doing all the last minute details for the lesson.

Angie usually goes to her Nona's on Friday afternoons, but she's out of town. So, I got my friend's daughter to watch her. Except she and her daughter were going to a football game, and so Angie had to go to. She was not happy about that.
We had talked about her and dinner. She didn't want to eat anything. I was already busy enough getting ready formy lesson, so I told her she can starve then! ugh! I just can't wait for these last few days to be over with.

I pray that the Lord gives us the strength we need to be firm and take control over the situation. I know it won't be easy. I know it won't last forever. I just pray the Lord is with us as we go through this hard times in our lives.

Yesterday was busy.....check out pictures!!!

So yesterday was a busy day for me. I schooled Angie in the morning, and then I had to finish with a client's pictures. Oh, yeah, in case you didn't know, I'm a Photographer. So, I had a client last week with 2 little girls, and I wanted to have the proofs ready for her yesterday.

Then in the afternoon I had another Photo session. This was an engagement session and I had so much fun shooting those!!! If you want to take a look, check out my photograph blog: Photography by Vanessa R.

Anyway, here's how my sweet picky eater and I did yesterday.

I wake up every morning at 4:18 am. Not because I have to, but because this is how I show my love to my husband, by getting up early and helping him get ready for work. I have breakfast ready and coffee ready and then I wake him up. I also prepare his lunch and snack for him to take to work. You might think I'm crazy or why doesn't he do that himself! Well, my answer is, he could. But I choose to love my husband the way he speaks loves. If you have never read "The five languages of Love" I would highly suggested.

Anyway, so my daughter woke up at 5:00 am. She does that sometimes and after my husband is gone to work, we both go back to bed. Yesterday though, she was already asking for something to eat at that time!
I told her it was way too early for breakfast. She insisted. So I gave her cereal with milk.
After Phil went to work, instead of going to bed, I wanted to work on the last pictures for my client. Angie wasn't tired, she said. So she stayed on the couch playing with her toys.

Oh how I love mornings! I wish they'd last much longer. Angie is usually pretty quiet and pretty content playing with her toys and not being demanding. Oh yeah, she's a bossy one!

8:00 am came way too fast for me. She had french toast sticks for her second breakfast. And soon we were doing school.

Okay, so have you noticed the pattern yet? I am not joking when I say there aren't many things she eats! Just go look at the left margin where it says "The Picky Eater's Diet". That is ALL she eats! It is so frustrated to say the least and I'm really praying this to start changing after 5 more days.

Lunch: I was sooooo happy that she still had chicken fingers from the night before when my husband made them. That meant NO STRUGGLE! I wish every meal was a struggle-free meal.

The rest of the day was pretty normal. As normal as can be in my household. You know us homeschooling moms are a bit "out there" haha.....Okay, that was an inside joke, so if you didn't get it, don's worry.

After my husband came home from work, I had to get ready for my Engagement session. I dropped him and Angie off at the gym, and I headed for my shoot.
At first, I had to pose the couple and ask them to interact with each other. My style of Photography is natural, so I like my clients to talk to each other, hold/touch each other. For some reason, it is always a bit dry between some couples at first. It's like some people aren't sure how to really interact with each other.
But once they warmed up, they did great!
I was so excited about the pictures, I started working right away when I got home. I ended up going to bed pretty late, but I was very very happy with the results I was getting.

Here are my 2 favorite pictures of this E-session. And if you want to see more, don't forget to check them out at my photography blog Photography by Vanessa R.

Angie's Cookie Show

There are a few things that Angie is very good at: being in front of the camera, helping bake cookies, and eating cookies! lol

Last night, while I was at my Bible Study, my husband and Angie baked cookies. Here's a video of it. Hope you enjoy!

(psst. keep your ears open for the "mice" conversation! lol)

And here are the cookies! =D

T-Minus 6

October 27, 2010

This is my very first post on my blog. T-minus 6 refers to the number of days left for us to start our new challenge with my precious sweet picky eater. To learn more about the "challenge" and my sweet picky eater, check out the pages on the top.

This morning has started just like any regular morning.
7:30 am
Angie wakes up and tells me she's hungry.
I ask, what do you want for breakfast?
She asks, what can I have?
I say, you can have french toast sticks (frozen cinamon french toasts sticks).
She replies, nah......how about cocoa puffs?
I sigh.
Sure, I say.
A green bowl with Cocoa puffs and milk, coming right up!

8:36 am
Hey mommy, she calls out.
Me, I'm click-type-click-type on the computer.........yeah? I answer.
She asks, can I have a crabby patty? (Her nona bought these disgusting gummy crabby pattys from spongebob the other day).
Uhhh, no!.....is my reply.
Whhhyyyy?
It is way too early for that honey. I said.

I will stand my ground. I will, I will, I will..........

9:30 am
She's hungry and asking now for the french toast sticks.
Here's her plate:
She ate it while she was in class. She has livelessons with a teacher and other students who are being homeschooled as well. I think it's nice and they get to interact with each other too.

Anyway, you might be wondering if all my blogs are going to be like this. And to that I have to say, yes and no.
At first, I want to give you a glimpse of the normal eating struggles we go through, the things she eats, how much she tries to control the situation, etc.
Once comes November 2nd, things will change and we will be a lot more stricter. We will be forcing her to at least try different foods, which right now she will fight you until the end.

Okay, so for lunch I asked her what she wanted, she said more french toast sticks. Umm, no honey, you can't eat that all day long, I told her.

She then asked for chicken ramen noodle. I sigh.
Do I really want to fight her today? Hmmph, no, not today, we'll keep it as "normal" as possible, so I cooked the mmmmm-super delicious and healthy ramen noodles! Yeah, I'm sure you can catch my sarcasm here....lol.
About 10 minutes after she started eating, she accidentally knocked the whole bowl full of the noodles! Grrrr!
Let me tell you that by this time, I'm not as patience as when I woke up early at 4:15 am. Especially because at that time she's still sleeping! LOL
So, we both cleaned her mess and she had to get changed.
I'm not too happy, but I do know it was an accident. However, I have told her millions of times to watch what she's doing. So, I told her she's just going to have to wait for dinner, unless she wants to eat what I'm eating, which was left over rice and beans. Of course she declined.

Now daddy's on his way home and he called me to tell me he's making homemade chicken fingers. That's about the only meat Angie eats. When we make them, Angie gets really excited and really involved in the kitchen, so it's always a big night when we are having them.
I will take some pictures of the cooking event and post them later.

It is now the end of the day, finally! :)
My husband came with all the stuff to cook the homemade crispy chicken fingers. I was able to get a few pics before I had to get going, since Wednesday nights are my Bible study.
So here there are!!!!

Check out the recipe on the top bar :)

All in all, a very successful dinner with my sweet picky eater! She ate very good and after dinner, she and my husband baked cookies. My husband took a couple of videos of them baking together. I might upload them tomorrow.

Dear Lord, Thank you so very much for another day with my family. I pray we all have a good nite sleep and we all wake up tomorrow morning with praises on our lips. Lord you are worthy of all our praises. We are struggling with this eating situation, but we know Father that you are in control. We love you and we thank you. In Jesus name, Amen.
